Teacher of the Year - Sierra RomeroOur 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year is Pre-K Professor, Sierra Romero! Here's a little info about our fabulous TOY! How long have you been teaching? The 2014-2015 school year will be my fourth year of teaching. What grade do you teach? Pre-K is my passion! I have taught Pre-K each year. What is your favorite subject? Pre-K is highly focused on building beginning literacy skills, and I enjoy incorporating literacy into every subject area. That being said, one of the things that I truly enjoy about Pre-K is that much of the content is integrated, and because of our theme-based learning, material from different subject areas work together to make the instruction meaningful. What do you love most about teaching? I feel that teaching is a job that is truly rewarding. We make a real difference in our students lives and their futures when we are dedicated in our profession. The time and effort that we spend has a direct effect on our student's academic, emotional, and social learning. I love that as a teacher, you never stop learning (it is impossible to know everything!) There are always new trainings, and there is always new research that you can apply and then bring back to your classroom. What do you love most about OSES? At Oak Springs, we have a very passionate team of professionals who work together to create a positive atmosphere for students. One way that we as a campus demonstrate this is through our close work with so many community partners, such as ACC Eastview Campus and First Baptist Church. These relationships make our students (and teachers) feel supported and appreciated by their community, which is powerful. Fun Fact I love wolves and snakes! Teacher of Promise - Colleen FairbrotherOur 2013-2014 Teacher of Promise is 2nd Grade Professor, Colleen Fairbrother! Here's a little info about our fabulous TOP! How long have you been teaching? I just finished my very first year of teaching & loved every minute of it! What grade do you teach? I teach second grade. What is your favorite subject? My absolute favorite subject to teach is Language Arts. My favorite part about Language Arts is being able to differentiate & individualize the curriculum in order to further strengthen a scholar's literacy skills. It is also my plan to eventually become a Reading Specialist later in my career. What do you love most about teaching? My favorite part about teaching is the art of getting a scholar excited about coming to school. I love that in our classroom we have a "free to be me" policy in which all my scholars feel intrinsically motivated & comfortable to participate and be an active member within our classroom! What do you love most about OSES? I love the work we do at OSES. I love that we are a college bound campus & promote the importance of higher education. One of my favorite things we did this past year at Oak Springs was the formation of the Oak Springs Writing Committee. In this committee, we created a primary writing curriculum with the goal of further propelling the primary level writing performance. I love creating academic tools & curriculum & was something I enjoyed being apart of. Fun Fact I know every single word to every single Beyonce' song in existence-just ask me :) |
