Oak Springs Dolphins have done it again! Our Pennies for Patients Drive raised $772.02 and our 2nd Annual Food Drive brought in 1,573 pounds of food!! That converts to 1,310 meals for the Austin community. In addition, First Baptist Church will be matching $1 per pound of food we donated, up to $1,500!! We are so excited to be giving back to our community. WAY TO GO OAK SPRINGS!! Professor Fairbrother - 2nd Grade1. How long have you been in your current position/teaching? This is my second year of teaching and my second year in 2nd grade! 2. What do you like most about your current grade/team? Second grade is the dream grade. It is the last year of primary age, and I believe such a pivotal year in social and academic growth! 3. What is your favorite book and why? My favorite book is "Deep End of the Ocean" because I remember I was in 4th grade, and that was when both my mom and I started reading every book that was in Oprah's Book Club together. That was a fun memory for me growing up. 4. Tell us about your favorite part of Oak Springs. My favorite part about Oak Springs is the work that we do here. I love that we are a college ready campus and promote the importance of higher education. I also enjoy the fabulous & fun people that I get to work with & make lasting memories with everyday! 5. If you could have any super power in the world, what would it be and why? If I could have one super power in the world then I would most definitely be Beyonce'. She is the most powerful woman and I try to emulate her ever day! 6. Fun fact! I know every single word to every single Beyonce' song in existence! Professor Burton - 2nd Grade1. How long have you been in your current position/teaching? This is my third year of teaching second grade at Oaks Springs and my third year as a teacher. I have had a number of other jobs before this. This should be my final career! 2. What do you like most about your current grade/team? Second graders know the rules and know the basics of the core subjects. We get to help them go deeper while still having fun. We get to LEARN and have FUN! 3. What is your favorite book and why? I can't pick just one! As a child, I read Little Women and Gone with the Wind multiple times. As an adult, my favorites are Albert Einstein (his biography), Unbroken, Life of Pi, The Sparrow, just to name a few. I love to read! 4. Tell us about your favorite part of Oak Springs. Our school is such a vital part of the community and what we do for the scholars seems much appreciated. It is rewarding to feel like we can make a difference. 5. If you could have any super power in the world, what would it be and why? I would give all children the love of learning! Of course... :-) 6. Fun fact! One of my previous careers took me to Antarctica! You might say to me, "That is pretty cool!" and I will tell you, "No! It was COLD!!" ;-) Professor De Avila - 2nd Grade Dual Language1. How long have you been in your current position/teaching? This is my first year. 2. What do you like most about your current grade/team? The kids are old enough to get jokes. 3. What is your favorite book and why? Roald Dahl books, especially Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because it let's my imagination run wild! 4. Tell us about your favorite part of Oak Springs. The kids! 5. If you could have any super power in the world, what would it be and why? Fly, because no restraints on where to go. 6. Fun fact! I used to pedicab over the summer. Nurse Loree1. How long have you been in your current position/teaching? 3 years in AISD, 10 years as a School Nurse, 25 years as a Registered Nurse! 2. What do you like most about your current grade/team? The way the people I work with have accepted me into their school family. 3. What is your favorite book and why? Wicked...it makes you consider the other side of the story; we each bring our own experiences to every interaction and my perception of the encounter may not match yours, and that's okay! 4. Tell us about your favorite part of Oak Springs. The support...even though I can't be here every day. 5. If you could have any super power in the world, what would it be and why? Self-Multiplication: The ability to create multiple versions of yourself at once....then I could do the job that I want to be able to do at all the schools I work at. 6. Fun fact!
